National Engineers Week

National Engineers Week, commonly known as EWeek, is celebrated annually from the third Sunday of February until the fourth Saturday of the same month. This week serves as a testament to engineers' invaluable contributions to society. EWeek also encourages the continued technical education of math and science among students to build a promising future of the engineering workforce.

Interestingly, the significance of National Engineers Week's timing traces back to George Washington's birthday. Considered one of America’s first engineers, Washington was a massive advocate for prioritizing technical advancements, innovation, education, and other initiatives that shaped America’s future. In fact, Washington helped pass the first US Patent Act in 1789.

At Design Central, we also embrace our role as champions of engineering's transformative power, particularly at the intersection of design. Design engineering is about balance. We are problem-solvers who dream of new ideas and use our technical know-how to make these dreams real. Our strength lies in harmonizing aesthetics and user experience with performance requirements and production efficiency, consistently delivering refined and optimized solutions.

With a comprehensive suite of services spanning mechanical, electrical, software, and automation engineering, as well as structural analysis, design validation, and regulatory consulting, our multidisciplinary team empowers clients with diverse opportunities for creative problem-solving. From the beginning of a project to its completion, our designers and engineers work hand in hand with you to develop sound design concepts realized in production.

Now, let's shine a spotlight on some of the remarkable individuals driving innovation at Design Central:

Dakil | Mechanical Engineer

Q: What is your favorite part about working at Design Central?

A: “The people – they feel like family. They are smart, easy to work with, helpful, and good listeners.” Surrounded by engineers with years of experience, Dakil loves being able to ask questions, knowing his team will take their time to give him thoughtful responses.

Josh | Senior Mechanical Engineer

Q: What are you passionate about?

A: “I like to nurture curiosity in my kids by encouraging them to ask questions.” As a father, Josh is passionate about igniting a love for learning, engineering, and science at a young age. Josh builds rockets with his daughter and friends’ kids in his spare time.

Rich | Senior Project Manager

Q: How did you choose your career path?

A: “I grew up around it!” Rich has several family members who were engineers, including his father, and grew up surrounded by various “craftsmen” and “craftswomen.” Since childhood, Rich has enjoyed making things with his hands. Even today, in his free time, Rich studies, repairs, improves, and builds mechanisms in his shop at home.

Jay | Vice President

Q: Any advice for aspiring students or early-career engineers?

A: “Start building a portfolio to differentiate yourself. A picture is worth a thousand words.” Having worked with several local high school STEM programs and served on different university advisory boards, including the Industry Advisory Board for Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kentucky, Jay understands the importance of helping future engineers. Jay encourages students and young professionals to document their learnings, achievements, and hobbies to build a unique and valuable reflection of their career thus far.

At Design Central, our team embodies a diverse array of experiences, passions, and expertise, united by a shared commitment to innovation and excellence. Through collaboration and creativity, we continue to push the boundaries of design and engineering, shaping a brighter future for generations to come.
